Men’s Golf Fourth at Furniture City Classic

KENTWOOD—Playing through steady rain showers, the Calvin men’s golf team had a solid showing at the Furniture City Classic on Wednesday at the Stonewater Country Club, posting a fourth place (36-hole) score of 618 strokes, one stroke behind Grand Rapids Community College and one stroke ahead of fifth place Hope. Cornerstone took first place with a score of 598 with Davenport second (607) and Aquinas sixth (626).

Jon Kuiper Captures Medalist Honors at Heidelberg Spring Collegiate Classic

Heidelberg Spring Collegiate Classic Results

TIFFIN, OH - Calvin senior Jon Kuiper completed a sterling two days of competition at the Heidelberg Spring Collegiate Classic on Friday with a round of 74 that allowed him to finish with a two-day total of 147 strokes – just three strokes over par. The two-day score was good for first place in the final individual standings, allowing Kuiper to take home medalist honors at the tournament held at the Mohawk Golf and Country Club.

Jon Kuiper In Three-Way Tie for First Place After Day One of Heidelberg Spring Collegiate Classic

TIFFIN, OH - Calvin College senior Jon Kuiper of Grand Rapids Christian High School continued his quest to qualify individually for the NCAA III Men’s Golf Championships in May with a strong individual performance on day one of the Heidelberg Spring Collegiate Classic Thursday afternoon. Kuiper fired a first day total of 73 strokes to finish in a three-way tie for first place. The 36-hole tournament is scheduled to be completed on Friday afternoon at the Mohawk Golf and Country Club.

Men’s Golf Takes Fourth at Muskingum Invitational

ZANESVILLE, OH—The Calvin men’s golf team took fourth in a field of nine teams at the two-day Muskingum Invitational at the Eaglesticks Golf Course with a 36-hole total of 613 strokes. Calvin opened the tournament with a day one score of 317 and then fired a sizzling score of 296 on Saturday. Malone was first with a two-day total of 558 strokes while Mount Union was second (603) and Otterbein third (611). Calvin’s top individual finisher was freshman Ben Kuiper (Grand Rapids Christian HS) with a total of 148 (79-69) strokes. Senior Jon Kuiper (Grand Rapids Christian HS) was Calvin’s next man, tied for 11th with a total of 152 strokes (78-74).

Men’s Golf Finishes in Three-Way Tie For Second Place in Final MIAA Standings

WEST OLIVE - The Calvin men’s golf team finished in a three-way tie for second place in the final MIAA standings, posting a team score of 309 on Wednesday at the final MIAA Jamboree of the year. Hope hosted the MIAA Jamboree at the Wuskowhan Players Club. Albion took first place on Wednesday with a sizzling score of 291 to make up 18 strokes on Calvin while Trine fired a round of 297 to also catch the Knights and create a three-way tie for second place. Calvin finished the year with a season average of 305.0 strokes-per-round, establishing a new Calvin single-season record. It also marks Calvin’s first second place finish since the 2003 season.

Calvin was led by senior Jon Kuiper with a round of 73 that left him with a final season average of 74.0 strokes-per-round which was good for second place in the final MIAA individual standings. The average breaks the previous Calvin record of 75.9 set by Jeff TenBrink in 2005.  It is also Calvin’s highest individual MIAA finish since Phil Rietema was second in 2003.

Men’s Golf Takes Sixth at MIAA Jamboree But Remains in Second Place in Overall Standings

MARSHALL, MI - The Calvin men’s golf team placed sixth at an MIAA Jamboree hosted by Albion on Thursday at the Medalist Golf Club but the Knights remain in second place in the overall standings with just one league outing left to play.

Calvin recorded a team score of 324 strokes on Thursday, two strokes behind Trine University. With one MIAA Jamboree left to play, Trine trails Calvin by 12 strokes in the overall standings. Albion is in fourth place, 18 strokes behind Calvin while Adrian is in fifth place, 20 strokes behind the Knights.

Men’s Golf Ties For Second at Red Poling Classic at Dearborn TPC

DEARBORN—The Calvin men’s golf team continued its strong play, tying for second place at the Red Poling Classic held at the Dearborn TPC on Tuesday afternoon. Calvin tied for second place with Malone College with a team score of 312 strokes, one stroke behind tournament champion Hope.

Calvin was led by junior Jess Hendriksma (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) with a 75, junior Eric Doezema (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS with a 76 and senior Jon Kuiper (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) with a 79. Rounding out Calvin’s finishers were freshman Dave Sarkipato (Kalamazoo/Kalamazoo Christian HS) and senior Kyle Harvey (Willard, OH/Willard HS) with rounds of 82.

Calvin returns to action on Thursday when it competes at an MIAA Jamboree hosted by Albion at the Medalist Golf Club.

Men’s Golf Fires Course Record Score of 294 In Winning MIAA Jamboree at Watermark Country Club

CASCADE—The Calvin men’s golf team used home course advantage to its advantage, firing a first place and course record score of 294 strokes Monday afternoon at an MIAA Jamboree hosted by the Knights at the Watermark Country Club.

The team score shattered the previous course record of 301 set by Olivet in 2005.

It also marks the first time Calvin has placed first place at an MIAA Jamboree since 2002 when the Knights also won at the Watermark Country Club.

With the finish on Monday, Calvin has widened its lead on second place in the overall MIAA standings, moving 14 strokes ahead of third place Trine. Trine trailed Calvin by just one stroke heading into Monday’s competition. The Knights still trail Hope by 14 strokes in the overall standings however.

MIAA Men’s Golf Jamboree Suspended Monday - No Word on Makeup Date

The MIAA men’s golf jamboree, hosted by Hope at the Wuskowhan Player’s Club in Holland was suspended because of severe weather conditions that swept through West Michigan Monday afternoon. Teams had completed roughly two-thirds of the competition but the scores have all been wiped out because of the weather.

There is no word at this time on whether the MIAA Jamboree - the sixth of a scheduled eight league competitions - will be made up at a later date or permanently canceled.

Calvin is scheduled to host the seventh MIAA Jamboree next Monday. The competition will be held at the Watermark Country Club in Cascade beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Men’s Golf Third at MIAA Jamboree at Trine - Now in Sole Possession of Second Place in MIAA Standing

ANGOLA, IN—Calvin moved into sole possession of second place in the MIAA standings on Saturday, posting a third place team score of 302 strokes at an MIAA Jamboree hosted by Trine University at the Zollner Golf Club. The Knights are now in a fierce fight for second place in the overall standins as Trine moved within a stroke of the Knights with a first place team score of 287 on Saturday. Hope took second with a score of 290 to widen its overall lead in the MIAA standings to 25 strokes with three league outings left to play.
