WEST OLIVE - With the season winding down, the Calvin men’s golf team has moved into fourth place in the MIAA standings. The Knights took third at an MIAA tournament hosted by Hope on Monday afternoon at the Wuskowhan Player’s Club with a team score of 300 strokes. The score allowed Calvin to move past Olivet and into fourth place in the league standings. The Knights are three strokes behind third place Adrian in the overall standings, eight strokes behind second place Hope and 21 strokes behind league-leading Trine. Calvin was led on Monday by senior Jess Hendriksma (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) who tied for fourth place individually with a round of 73. Hendriksma is currently in fifth place in the MIAA individual standings with a season average of 74.3 strokes per round.

ADRIAN – A fourth place finish at an MIAA tournament hosted by Adrian College on Saturday dropped Calvin back into fifth place in the overall MIAA standings.
Calvin finished tied for fourth at Saturday’s tournament held at the Lenawee Country Club with a team score of 305. Host Adrian took first place on Saturday with a team score of 295 strokes with Hope second at 299, Olivet third at 302 and Calvin tied with Albion for fourth place. Trine continues to hold a first place lead in the overall standings at 1490 strokes but is now just 13 strokes ahead of second place Adrian, 14 strokes ahead of third place Hope, 16 strokes ahead of fourth place Olivet and 19 strokes ahead of fifth place Calvin.

KALAMAZOO - The Calvin men’s golf team inched closer to league-leading Trine University despite finishing fourth at an MIAA tournament Tuesday afternoon at the Milham Park Golf Club. Calvin took fourth at the tournament with a team score of 301 strokes on Tuesday. The Knights are now tied for second place with Olivet and just one stroke ahead of fourth place Hope in the overall standings. The Knights made up six strokes on the league-leading Thunder of Trine however as Trine placed seventh on Tuesday with a team score of 307. Calvin trails Trine by 20 strokes in the overall standings.

ANGOLA, IN – Calvin moved into sole possession of second place in the overall MIAA standings with a third place finish at an MIAA jamboree hosted by Trine University Saturday afternoon at the Zollner Golf Club.
Calvin posted a third place team score of 294 strokes with host Trine winning with a score of 275 and Adrian placing second with a score of 286. Hope was a stroke behind Calvin with a team score of 295.
Trine now holds a 27-stroke lead over Calvin for first place in the overall MIAA standings through three league outings. Calvin is three strokes ahead of Olivet and five strokes ahead of Hope.

MARSHALL - The Calvin men’s golf team took first place at an MIAA jamboree hosted by Albion at the Medalist Golf Club on Wednesday afternoon, posting a team score of 303 strokes. The jamboree was the second of the year on the league schedule.
Calvin finished four strokes ahead of runner-up Trine and seven strokes ahead of third place Hope. After two league jamborees, Calvin is now in third place in the overall MIAA standings with 609 strokes, one stroke behind Olivet (608) and seven strokes behind league-leading Trine (602). Hope is in fourth place with 613 strokes overall.

BATTLE CREEK - Calvin participated in the first MIAA jamboree of the year on Thursday and came away with a fifth place team score of 306 strokes. The jamboree took place at the Bedford Valley Country Club with Olivet serving as host. Olivet used home course advantage to its advantage with a sizzling team score of 289 strokes, finishing six strokes ahead of Trine University and 14 strokes ahead of third place Hope. Adrian was fourth at 305 with Calvin just a stroke behind in fifth. Calvin’s top individual golfer on Thursday was senior Jess Hendriksma (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) with a round of 75 that left him tied for 11th place.

BATTLE CREEK - Calvin used a strong day performance to finish in fifth place at the Olivet College Lou Collins Memorial Tournament. Calvin came up with a second day score of 303 after recording a score of 312 the day before. The weekend tournament was held at the Bedford Valley Country Club. Calvin’s two-day total of 615 strokes was one stroke better than sixth place Hope and none stroke behind fourth place Madonna. Host Olivet took first place with a two-day total of 605 strokes while Trine and Wheaton (IL) tied for second at 609.

The 2010 Calvin men’s golf team returns six letterwinners from its 2009 squad that tied for second in the final MIAA standings.
Calvin’s senior cast includes Jess Hendriksma and Eric Doezema. Hendriksma (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) was a second team All-MIAA selection in 2009, finishing 10th in the final MIAA individual standings with an average of 75.9 strokes per round. Doezema (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) is another savvy veteran who finished the 2009 MIAA season inside of Calvin’s regular lineup.

The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has announced the winner of the Hartman Writing Award.
Jeff Febus, sports information director at Calvin College, has been named the winner of the Hartman Writing Award. The award honors the memory of former Albion College Sports Information Director Robin Hartman who passed away in August of 2006. At the time of his death, Hartman was the prep sports editor for the Fort Wayne News Sentinel. Robin Hartman Memorial Tribute. The Hartman Award honors outstanding writing in a sports information capacity, either by a sports information director or assistant
