Calvin College junior Ben Kuiper has been named to the Ping Division III Great Lakes All-Region men’s golf team announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Kuiper is one of 72 players spread across six different regions to be so honored. A native of Grand Rapids and a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School, Kuiper was the MIAA Most Valuable Player and a first team All-MIAA selection this past fall, finishing first in the final MIAA standings with an average of 74.6 strokes-per-round. In doing so, he became the first MIAA medalist from Calvin since Lloyd Dozeman accomplished the feat in 1970 and the first MIAA Most Valuable Player from Calvin since Dave Tuls accomplished the feat in 1965. Kuiper then continued his strong play during the spring, taking home medalist honors at the Furniture City Classic in April. He is the third individual in as many years from Calvin to earn Ping All-Region honors as his older brother Jon Kuiper was so honored in 2010 while Jess Hendriksma was a Ping All-Region choice in 2011. All three individuals are graduates of Grand Rapids Christian High School.
