Baseball Falls 7-4 to Davenport in Non-Conference Matchup

The Knights’ record fell to 10-17 after a 7-4 non-conference loss to Davenport on Tuesday. Calvin collected 15 hits in the loss. Freshman Grant VanPutten led the way by going 4-for-4 at the plate while junior Tyler Tos, junior Ben Cok, junior Drew Vos and sophomore Steve VanderMolen all had two hits apiece. Sophomore Grant VanderWall took the loss to fall to 2-5 on the year. Calvin is back in action on Friday when it travels to Alma for a 2 p.m. conference doubleheader at Klenk Park.

Baseball Swept by Adrian in Four-Game Weekend Series

The Knights lost the first end of Saturday’s doubleheader against conference power Adrian by a score of 8-2. In spite of the lopsided final score, the Knights controlled a majority of the game. Sophomore Jeff Victor was on the mound for Calvin and, through his 5.2 innings, Victor had the Bulldog bats on their heels. In game two, Calvin was defeated 10-3. Calvin trailed 5-2 heading into the fifth before Adrian mounted a late surge to pull away. With the sweep, Adrian stays atop the MIAA with a 21-6 overall record and a 14-2 mark in conference. The result moves Calvin to 10-16 and 5-11 in conference.

Baseball Team Drops Two at Nationally-Ranked Adrian

ADRIAN - The Calvin baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader at nationally-ranked Adrian College Thursday afternoon, falling by scores of 16-4 and 6-0. The Knights are now 10-14 overall and 5-9 in the MIAA. Calvin had seven hits in defeat including a solo homerun by junior Ben Cok (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) in the fourth. Cok went 2-for-4 in the loss. Sophomore catcher Kyle Spoelma (Kentwood/South Christian HS) also went 2-for-3 with a run scored in defeat. In game two, Calvin matched Adrian with seven hits but the Knights stranded nine baserunners. Adrian meanwhile, scored two runs in the first, two in the second, one in the third and one in the fifth.Freshman Ben Wohl (Canton/Plymouth HS) went 2-for-3 for the Knights with a double. The two teams will resume the four-game series at Calvin on Saturday with a doubleheader slated to start at 1 p.m.
