Baseball Takes Two From Olivet on Saturday

Calvin coach John Sparks entered Saturday’s double-header against Olivet with his hands tied. The Knights depleted pitching staff was beginning a stretch of ten conference games in eight days.

The Knights faced second-place Olivet in a four-game series Friday and Saturday and will host a makeup double-header with first-place Adrian on Monday. Calvin also is scheduled to take on Albion in a four game series next weekend.

Pieter Steiner (Chicago, IL/Glenbrook South) and Keith Spoelstra (Oakland, NJ/Eastern Christian) delivered for the Knights with complete game performances. Calvin (18-16, 15-7 MIAA) swept a double-header from Olivet (19-16, 15-9 MIAA) at Calvin Field to take sole possession of second-place in the MIAA standings.

Baseball Splits Doubleheader at Olivet

OLIVET – The Calvin baseball team gained a doubleheader split at Olivet Friday afternoon, dropping the opener 6-1 and then coming back to win the nightcap 8-6 in eight innings.

The Knights are now 16-16 overall and 13-7 in the MIAA while Olivet is 15-7 in league play.

Calvin Baseball Doubleheader With Olivet Postponed For Thursday

The Calvin baseball doubleheader scheduled for Thursday has been postponed until Friday, May 1, because of rain. The doubleheader on Friday is slated to begin at 2:00 p.m. at Olivet. The two teams will then play at Calvin on Saturday in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Rain in West Michigan has also moved the MIAA Men’s and Women’s Tennis Tournaments indoors. Updated sites and times can be found on the MIAA website at:MIAA Website

The MIAA Track and Field Championships are also underway at Albion and will continue Thursday and Friday. Check out the MIAA website for more information.
