Alumni Game for Calvin Baseball Program Set for October 1

The annual alumni game for the Calvin baseball program will take place Sat. Oct. 1st at 11 a.m. on the Calvin baseball field. All former Calvin baseball players are welcome to come and participate or spectate. An informal lunch will follow after the game. Calvin College Athletics Program to Join Nation-wide Division III Partnership With Special Olympics

As part of the Division III National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Calvin athletics recently joined a Division III partnership with the United States’ Special Olympic Committee, adding a valuable opportunity to the athletic department’s already service-driven outlook. The SAAC is an NCAA organization tiered at the national, conference, and school level.  The national, and governing, branch of the organization, seeks to “to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete welfare and fostering a positive student-athlete image,” according to the organization’s website.

MIAA Academic Honor Roll

The 2010-11 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Academic Honor Roll has been announced by Commissioner David Neilson and 111 Calvin scholar-athletes have been named to the list. The honor roll recognizes scholar-athletes who achieve a minimum 3.5 grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) for the entire 2010-11 academic year. A student needed to have won a varsity letter in a sport to be eligible. The MIAA Academic Honor Roll program was initiated in 1990 to recognize students at MIAA member colleges who excel both in athletics and in the classroom. This year’s Honor Roll includes several students who achieved the distinction four consecutive years.
Of the students, 10 are from Calvin.
