Brian Haverdink Reflects on Last Regular Season Home Game At Van Noord Arena

Playing in his final regular season home game as a Calvin College Knight, senior Brian Haverdink could not have asked for a better atmosphere than was present against Hope. Although the Knights could not dismantle the Dutch, Haverdink was grateful just the same. Haverdink’s last regular season game in Van Noord Arena was marked with an 11-point, six-rebound performance by Calvin’s lone senior against the team ranked number one in the nation in Division III.

Men’s Basketball Holds On for Win in 100-99 Overtime Thriller Over Alma

Down by seven with three minutes in regulation, the Knights fought back to capture a thrilling 100-99 overtime victory over Alma on Wednesday. Junior Matt DeBoer hit a jumper in the closing seconds of regulation to send the contest into overtime. In the closing seconds of overtime, Alma missed a three-point shot, allowing Calvin to hold on for the win. Four Knights finished in double figures. Snikkers had 26 points and 11 rebounds for his third consecutive double-double. DeBoer had 22 points and seven rebounds. Powell had 21 points and Kruis had 16 points and nine rebounds. Alma’s Cory Schneider led all scorers with 27 points. With the win, Calvin remains tied for second place in the MIAA standings with Adrian at 7-4 in league play.

The Calvin-Hope men’s basketball rivalry has again received national attention. The storied rivalry is featured on the NCAA website in a story written by Amy Farnum Patronis. This Saturday will mark the 181st meeting between the two rivals in a series that dates back to the 1920-21 season and sees Hope holding a 93-87 series lead.
