NABC Suits and Sneakers Press Release

The members of the Calvin men’s basketball coaching staff participated in the National Association of Basketball Coaches Association’s Coaches vs Cancer Suits and Sneakers Weekend this past Saturday. During Calvin’s games against Hope which included a junior varsity game at 12:30 followed by a 3 p.m. varsity contest, every member of the Calvin coaching staff wore sneakers with their suits to demonstrate their support for the American Cancer Society and its vision of a world with less cancer and more birthdays. The Hope College coaching staff also participated in the event. The Calvin coaching staff included head coach Kevin Vande Streek and assistant coaches Tim VanDyke, Jeff Krosschell, Ricky Shilts and student assistant coach Matt Veltema. By lacing up sneakers with their suits on the event’s seventh annual awareness weekend, college and high school basketball coaches across the country this past weekend spotlighted the fact that while cancer remains a major health concern, everyone can take daily steps to reduce their risk of the disease.
