Men’s Basketball Defeats Albion 64-55 - Moves Back Into Third Place Tie in MIAA Standings

ALBION - Calvin moved back into a tie for third place in the MIAA standings with a 64-55 victory at Albion Wednesday night at Kresge Gymnasium. The Knights (10-10 overall, 5-4 MIAA) are now tied with Trine for third place in the league standings while Albion slips back to 4-5 in league play. Snikkers led Calvin with 23 points and 11 rebounds, notching his seventh collegiate double-double in the process. Sophomore center Tyler Kruis also had 11 points while Powell collected eight points off the bench. Junior David Rietema had six points, four assists and three steals.

Men’s Basketball Edged by Adrian 60-57 at Van Noord Arena - Falls Into Fourth Place Tie in MIAA

With Adrian in second place in the MIAA at 5-2 and Calvin tied for third at 4-3, the Saturday afternoon contest promised to be hard fought, and that’s exactly what it was. In the end, Adrian came out on top 60-57 in a hard-fought game at Calvin’s Van Noord Arena. Adrian maintains sole possession of second place in the MIAA standings while Calvin slips into a tie for fourth place with Albion, one game behind Trine.

Men’s Basketball Moves Into Tie For Third Place in MIAA Standings With Win Over Olivet

Calvin picked up its fourth win in its last five games with a 93-65 triumph over visiting Olivet Wednesday night at Calvin’s Van Noord Arena. The Knights are now 9-9 overall and more importantly locked in a tie for third place in the MIAA standings with Trine at 4-3 in league play. Calvin is just one game behind second place Adrian (5-2) heading into a key Saturday contest between the two teams slated to start at 3 p.m. at Calvin. Calvin placed four players in double-digits in scoring led by junior Tom Snikkers who had 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Junior Bryan Powell had a strong game off the bench, connecting on 8 of 10 shots along with a pair of free throws for 18 points while junior Matt DeBoer had 12 points and sophomore Tyler Kruis had 11 points. Junior Nate Van Eck added eight points in a reserve role as Calvin’s bench accounted for 40 of the team’s 93 points. Junior point guard David Rietema had another outstanding floor game with seven assists against just one turnover while also snaring eight rebounds.
