Men’s Basketball Snaps Four-Game Losing Skid With 68-47 Win Over Kalamazoo

The Knights put a conclusive stamp on their first conference win with a 68-47 victory over Kalamazoo Wednesday evening. After an even first half, Calvin outscored the Hornets 41-20 in the game’s final twenty minutes. Junior Bryan Powell had 18 points including 12 in the second half while junior Tom Snikkers had 11 points and nine rebounds. Sophomores Jordan Mast and Tyler Kruis had eight points apiece with Kruis blocking four shots to go with seven rebounds while Mast nailed a pair of three-point shots. Calvin will travel to Alma on Saturday for a 3 p.m. contest.

The Knights fell to 0-2 in conference with a 64-59 loss against Albion on Saturday. In the game’s opening seven minutes, Albion went on a 13-4 run with a flurry of three point plays. Alex Harville knocked down two triples and Luke Walker added one to cap off the run. The Britons maintained a lead for most of the first half until Calvin chipped away at the deficit. Calvin was led in defeat by DeBoer with 15 points while Snikkers had 14 points, 7 assists and six rebounds. Kruis added 12 points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots. Calvin hosts Kalamazoo Wednesday at 8 p.m.
Men’s Basketball Drops MIAA Opener at Adrian 68-61

ADRIAN - The Calvin men’s basketball team dropped its MIAA opener Wednesday night at Adrian, falling by a score of 68-61. Calvin trailed 34-26 at halftime but came back to take a 35-34 second half lead. Adrian came back to take a 58-47 lead only to see Calvin creep to within five at 64-59 before a late set of Adrian free throws kept Calvin at bay. Junior Bryan Powell led Calvin in defeat with a career-high 21 points while junior Tom Snikkers had 15 points and Jordan Mast 12 points. Sophomore Tyler Kruis added nine points and eight rebounds. Calvin (5-7 overall, 0-1 MIAA) returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Albion at 3 p.m. at Van Noord Arena.
