Men’s Basketball Takes Third at Hall of Fame Classic With OT Win Over Cornerstone

HOLLAND- John Mantel (Chelsea HS) said Calvin needed to have a statement game against Cornerstone in Saturday’s Grand Rapids Hall of Fame Classic consolation game at Hope College.
Mantel did just that as he led the Knights with a career high 27 points as Calvin held off Cornerstone 85-82 in overtime. Mantel drained two clutch free throws with 10 seconds left in regulation to force overtime. Matt Veltema’s (Calvin Christian) eight-footer with 39 seconds left in overtime was the difference.

HOLLAND- After capturing Calvin’s opening tip-off tournament convincingly last weekend, the Knights suffered a let down in the first round of the Grand Rapids Hall of Fame Classic Friday at Hope College. Calvin was unable to overcome a 17-point first half deficit and fell 78-73 to Aquinas for the Knights’ first loss of the season.

GRAND RAPIDS – Caleb Veldhouse weaved his way through the Calvin record books in Saturday’s 71-61 win over Spring Arbor, scoring a game-high 24 points to surpass Duane Rosendahl as the Knights’ 10th all-time leading scorer with 1,343 points.
