Diemer Named Great Lakes Regional Men’s/Women’s XC Coach of Year - Kramer Regional Athlete of Year

Calvin College cross country coach Brian Diemer has been named the Division III Great Lakes Regional Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year. Diemer swept both awards late this afternoon as announced by the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association.

In addition, Nick Kramer has been named the Great Lakes Regional Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Year by the USTFCCCA. A native of Dyer, Indiana, Kramer became the ninth individual in Calvin men’s cross country history to claim a Great Lakes Regional title this past Saturday, running 25:45, nine seconds better than the next fastest runner. A graduate of Illiana Christian High School, Kramer also took first place at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletics Association Jamboree and MIAA Championships this fall, garnering MIAA Most Valuable Runner honors.

TERRE HAUTE, IN—The Calvin men’s and women’s cross country teams are headed to the Rock and Roll City. Both teams punched their tickets to next week’s NCAA III Championships scheduled to be held in Cleveland, Ohio, with first place finishes at the Great Lakes Regional meet hosted Saturday by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

The top two teams in the men’s 8K race and the top two teams in the women’s 6K race on Saturday both received automatic trips to the NCAA III Championships. In the men’s race, Calvin took first place with 73 points, 21 points ahead of Heidelberg. In the women’s race, top-ranked Calvin recorded a first place total of 50 points, 70 points ahead of runner-up Oberlin.

For the sixth consecutive week, the Calvin women’s cross country team is ranked number-one in the Division III Top 35 rankings compiled by the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association. The Knights received a first place total of 279 points in this week’s poll, 10 points ahead of second-ranked Johns Hopkins (MD). Wisconsin-Eau Claire is ranked third and MIT ranked fourth. On the men’s side, Calvin has moved up one spot in this week’s poll as the Knights are ranked 15th, sharing the spot with Haverford (PA). North Central (IL) remains the top-ranked team in the men’s poll, garnering 280 points in this week’s poll, 10 points ahead of second-ranked Wisconsin-LaCrosse.
