Workshop Description
The workshop will be a collaborative effort to gain a better
understanding of what Christian philosophers today should be doing and how they should be doing it. We will look at selected issues of special concern to Christians taken from the fields of metaphysics, ethics, political philosophy, and epistemology. Possible areas of concern will include issues in the philosophy of mind and action, the foundations of ethics and the relation between virtue theory and divine command theory, and questions about the role of evidence in human knowledge and belief. We will ask whether there are particular positions with respect to these kinds of issues that are incompatible with Christian faith or specially appropriate for those with Christian faith.

One area of general concern will be the way Christian philosophers should deal with disagreements, both among themselves and with their secular colleagues. In all these discussions special attention will be given to the role of revelation and faith in the development of philosophical positions. How should Christian philosophers view and use the Bible in their work? How should they think of themselves in relation to the Church?

This workshop will bring together a team of 25 philosophers to engage in discussion around a common set of readings. Participants will be encouraged to pursue individual projects related to the workshop, and will have opportunity to meet with the workshop directors and mentors to discuss both their project and their vocation as Christian philosophers.
