Course Description:
This workshop will explore Afro-Christian worship practices in relationship to issues of social engagement. The perspective is global and inclusive of Afro-Christian traditions in Africa, Europe, the Caribbean and throughout the Americas.

The questions this workshop will address are: What ways do music and other art forms of Afro-Christian worship express protest against injustice? How is Afro-Christian worship a vehicle for spiritual transformation that impacts social justice and social change in Afro communities? How do social and religious movements impact Afro-Christian worship?

Participants will reflect on their workshop practices in terms engaging theological, intellectual and social issues. Participants should come expecting to dialogue with others and seriously engage their Christian identity, practice. Pastors, worship leaders, trained musicians, university and college faculty and professionals in relevant disciplines are eligible applicants.
