Seminar Description

This four-week seminar is designed to help a small group of approximately 15 faculty and graduate students from China to develop courses in science and religion that are suitable for their respective universities.  The seminar will be taught by two faculty from Messiah College who are known internationally for their scholarship and teaching in science and religion: historian Edward (“Ted”) Davis and philosopher Robin Collins.

About the Directors

Edward B. Davis is Distinguished Professor of the History of Science at Messiah College (Grantham, PA). Though mainly known for his work on Robert Boyle and the scientific revolution in Europe, he has also written about religion and science in the United States. His essay on modern Jonah stories has been featured on two radio programs produced by the British Broadcasting Company. In the May-June (2005) issue of American Scientist, he analyzed religious pamphlets written by leading scientists from the Scopes era. With support from the National Science Foundation and the John Templeton Foundation, he is currently writing a book about the religious beliefs of American scientists from the early twentieth century.

Professor Robin Collins, Ph.D., specializes in philosophy of science, philosophy of religion, metaphysics, and philosophical theology. He is well versed in issues relating to science and religion, with graduate-level training in theoretical physics. He is currently working on a book entitled The Well-designed Universe: God, Fine-tuning, and the Laws of Nature, which argues that the basic structure of the universe strongly points to the existence of a Designer.

Guest Speakers

The Directors have invited several guests to speak on the topic.
