Who may Apply
Applicants should possess or be near completion of a PhD, from all disciplines. Half of the participants will be those working in some area of practical theology. Applicants should be prepared to engage with philosophical, sociological, and educational literature but need not be specialists in these areas. A strong interest in teaching, learning, and formation is essential. Applicants should have demonstrated ability to produce publishable work. The ideal participant will be committed to serious and systematic Christian reflection on pedagogy (the seminar is not for those who just want to pick up on teaching tips.) and a potential contributor to the scholarship of teaching and learning. No more than three participants should be from the same institution.
How to Apply
To apply, an applicant must submit the application form. In addition to general applicant information, the application form will require:
- Curriculum vitae or Resume
- A brief (750 word) essay addressing the following questions:
- In what ways have you engaged as a Christian with questions surrounding pedagogy?
-What aspects of teaching and learning have particularly interested you?
-What authors/resources have informed your thinking about teaching and learning?
-What aspects of Christian teaching and learning would you like to work on in the next few years?
- One (1) letter of recommendation addressing ability and engagement with teaching and learning.
A letter of recommendation should be sent from the recommender directly to the Seminars office at firstname.lastname@example.org and must include the applicant's name and "Reflective Pedagogy and Christian Practice" in the subject line.
You will receive an email confirmation within 10 days of submitting your complete application. If you do not hear from us, please call us to determine whether your complete application has been received.
The application deadline is January 24, 2011. Participants will be selected after the application deadline. Incomplete and/or late applications will not be considered. Applicants will be notified of their status by March 1, 2011.
