Jennifer Taps, M.A., CCC-SLP
Monday, February 28, 2011
Prince Conference Center at Calvin College
Grand Rapids, Michigan
Conference Description
This session presents an innovative approach for addressing the needs of children with mild articulation disorders in the public school setting. San Diego Unified School District shifted its services to a general education service delivery model for these students. Resources and procedures are described. The session features evidence-based intervention practices and videos to demonstrate these principles. Six years of project data illustrate the efficacy of this short-term, intensive approach, which strives to remediate mild articulation errors in 20 hours or less. The session concludes with a discussion of future implications and best practices in the schools.
Participants will be able to:
- Describe the rationale for changing how one district delivers services to students with mild articulation differences.
- Discuss the components and procedures of reforming service delivery to children with mild articulation disorders who do not demonstrate adverse educational impact.
- Utilize evidence-based intervention techniques for remediating mild articulation errors in 20 hours or less.
- Discuss the impact of reform on workload management and consider implementation in own districts.
