Conceptual Models for Integrating Christian Faith and Social Work Practice
constitutes a one-week seminar from July 20 – 24, 2004 on the campus of Calvin College. This project aims to explore foundational and enduring questions in the social work profession with the goal of moving toward developing conceptual models to guide efforts to integrate Christian faith and social work practice. Specifically, participants will (1) read and discuss broadly with respect to ontological and epistemological underpinnings of the profession, (2) explore the historical role of Christian faith in the development of the profession, and (3) consider the implications of these in reference to specific policy tensions in the profession. Answers to the question, for instance, of who should be responsible for the poor are grounded in our understanding of the nature of human beings and the nature of society.

Ten to twelve known scholars or practitioners in the social work profession will be invited to participate. Co-facilitators are Cheryl Brandsen, Ph. D. and Beryl Hugen, Ph. D., Department of Sociology and Social Work, Calvin College.

Please note that this event is by invitation only.
