Exploring Your Vocation in
Christian Academic Institutions
A conference for undergraduate honors students from Lilly
Network Schools
Hosted by Susan M. Felch and Kenneth
Bratt, Calvin College

September 26-28, 2003
At the Yarrow Conference Center,
Augusta, Michigan
Funded by the Lilly
Fellows Program in the Humanities and the Arts
The Undergraduate Honors Conference for the Great Lakes Region is
designed to encourage the best undergraduates at Lilly Network institutions
to consider finding their vocations in church-related higher education,
to provide an opportunity for honors students to establish friendships
with future colleagues, to expand the boundaries of their own honors experiences,
and to make inter-denominational and institutional connections. Two rising
juniors or seniors from Lilly Schools in the Great Lakes Region are selected
to participate in this event.
During the weekend students will talk with three experienced faculty
members: Paul Contino,
humanities professor at Pepperdine University, John
Steven Paul, professor of theatre at Valparaiso University;
and Laura Smit, professor
of theology at Calvin College, each of whom will also make a presentation.
A panel of graduate students and recent Ph.D.s
will talk about the pleasures and perils of graduate school. There will
also be free time to enjoy the recreational facilities at Yarrow.
