Mark Gurley '88 and his wife Michele were ordained as ministers by Living Word Ministries International in Evergreen, Colo. The ordination is a preparation and ongoing ministry leadership for the Healing Rooms of Grand Rapids, Inc.—a ministry to pray for the sick. Mark and Michele are co-founders of the ministry along with Terry and Carol Heiss.

Mark Berends '85 and Ann Primus Berends '85 have moved from Washington D.C., where Mark was a senior social scientist at RAND. They have relocated to Nashville, Tenn., and Mark is now an associate professor in the Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. They have three children: Peter, Ruth and Joseph.

Laura N. Kaiser Paré '85 was recently married in California. Her husband, André, is an independent contractor and freelance puppeteer. Laura was most recently program director for the Chicago International Children's Film Festival and is currently looking for work in the Los Angeles area.

Edward E. Ericson III '85 has been appointed vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty at John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Ark. Ericson had previously served as dean of undergraduate studies.

Pam Ritsema '84 was recently appointed acting director of the Grand Rapids, Mich., Parking Services Department—one of the city's most visible agencies. She is the first woman to hold the position. Ritsema came to Parking Services in 1997 after a six-year stint with the Grand Rapids Income Tax Department.

After finishing her master's degree in English at Oklahoma State University, Rebecca Huizenga Dechert '89 began teaching English and ESL at Central Wyoming College in Riverton, Wyo. During the summer she writes for various dog magazines and helps her husband work the family farm.

After a harrowing climb, Rich Smith '85 and his wife, Jill, reached the top of Mt. McKinley—North America's highest peak—in May of 2002. The Rockford, Mich., couple are members of the High Pointers Club of North America—a group for those who seek to reach the highest point in each of the 50 states.
