Joel Veldheer '70 and Henry Hekman ex'67 have won the Greater Grand Rapids Hall of Fame Tennis Classic Class C Doubles title for the second year in a row. Joel also won the singles title. Nick Friend ex'76 has worked as a certified public accountant since graduating from Central Washington University in 1979. He now is controller for Bleyhl Farm Supply in the Yakima Valley and operates the family cherry and peony farm. Clarence Reyneveld '75 is working to use television as a platform for Bible teaching. His half-hour weekly program is seen on nine stations in Michigan and Ohio. Marvin Meyer '70 SEM'74 has been appointed Griset Professor of Bible and Christian Studies at Chapman University in Orange, Calif. Marv is chairman of the schools'department of religious studies, director of the Chapman Albert Schweitzer Institute, and research project director at the Institute for Antiquity and Christianity at Claremont Graduate University. He is the author of several books and appeared on Peter Jennings'ABC special "The Search for Jesus." Marv's wife, Bonnie Bratt Meyer '70, is a teacher at Bellflower Christian School and a church organist. Marti Fahner-King '75 recently was named Teacher of the Year in the Forest Hills Public Schools in suburban Grand Rapids, Mich. She has taught vocal music for 19 years, the last nine at Forest Hills Middle School, where 236 students are involved in the singing programs. Marti lives in Ada, Mich. Terry Jolink '72 has been elected president of the Community Theatre Association of Michigan, an organization of more than 70 community theaters around the state. He has been acting with the Riverbend Players in Grandville for more than 20 years. |

Rubye Hill Harris '73 of Grand Rapids on 5/19/01. Ann Mary Minnema '72 of Caledonia, Mich., on 8/4/01. Ann became one of the only physicians in the country who was double-boarded in internal medicine and psychiatry and practiced both. She was known locally for discovering that phenylpropanolamine, a common drug ingredient, could be linked to strokes. She lobbied the FDA which in turn advised companies to stop using it in the early 1990s. A music major at Calvin, she was a talented organist, pianist and singer.
