Lt. Col. Karl Lundberg '81 has been called to active duty in Operation Enduring Freedom. He has been stationed with the Marines at Camp Pendleton, Calif. since January. His wife, Jenny Heersema Lundberg '85, still lives in Indiana with their three children. International opera star Michelle De Young '88 won two Grammy Awards in February for the recording of her performance in Berlioz' Les Troyens. The mezzo soprano's performance as Didon with the London Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Sir Colin Davis won Best Classical Album and Best Opera Recording. The CD was also nominated for Best Engineered Album, Classical. On Grammy night, De Young was in St. Louis for concerts of Elgar's Dream of Gerontius and was in rehearsal until 10 p.m. "I got home and had no messages and none on my cell phone," she said, "so I figured we didn't win. I turned on the television, and five minutes later they announced we had won both! I started screaming and jumping up and down - probably not the most considerate thing to do at 10:30 p.m. in a hotel, but I was so excited!" The "1980-81 Knollcrest East Delta 7 crew" celebrated its 20-year reunion in Lawrence, Kansas last Independence Day. Lawrence resident Dave Topp '81 and his wife, Liz, hosted Dave ex'81 and Audrey Kort Cheadle '82; Keith '82 and Miriam Hoksbergen Hinkle '79; Brad '82 and Naomi Lunger Quist '82; Tom Siekmeier '81 and his wife, Claudette; and Denny ex'81 and Ann Jonker Wise '82, along with 18 collective children. His wife, Chris Hamstra Van Zanen '84, works with first-year students at the English-language school. Scott Bosscher '81, an assistant professor of music at Grace Bible College, has been named the artistic director of the Grand Rapids (Mich.) Choir of Men and Boys. Scott has sung professionally in Chicago and Great Britain, and he has taught voice and music theory at Wells Cathedral in Somerset, England, and locally at Sylvan Christian School. Jil Evans '80 recently exhibited original paintings based on the work of Baroque artists Giambattista Tiepolo and Andrea Pozzo at the Steensland Art Museum at St. Olaf College in Minnesota. Her work is included in the public and private collections of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Coca Cola, Inc., and a number of other museums, corporations and educational institutions. Wayne Blackwell '89 has been named Technology Pioneer of the Year by Michigan Mutual Insurance Company. The award recognizes agents who use technology to improve customer service.
