Tricia Fynewever ’98 has graduated from Loma Linda University School of Medicine in Loma Linda, Calif. She is starting her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at St. Joseph Hospital in Chicago, Ill.
Scott Taylor '96 is the worship pastor at Faith Baptist Church in Waterford, Mich. He and his wife, Christy Berkelaar Taylor '96, live in nearby Pontiac where Christy has taken a leave from teaching to be a teacher of one, their son Philip.
Nolan '91 and Nathan '91 Stallinga are used to sharing their birthday. Now, their children will get used to it too! The Stallinga twins made Sioux Falls, S.D. news when they each welcomed a child into the world on the same day. Alexandra and Will Stallinga are cousins born on June 9, 2002. Interestingly, the cousins were also born in hospital rooms right beside each other.
Lisa Kryger Boehm ‘95 and Jeff Boehm '95 have been volunteers with Youth With a Mission Thailand in Bangkok, Thailand, for two years.
Jon Van Duinen ’98 and Deb Vriend Van Duinen ‘98 from Holland, Mich., together with Sarah Rinsema Sybenga ‘98 and Dan Sybenga ‘98, who just finished four years of teaching English in Japan, are making a five-month bicycle trip around southeast Asia. They started in August and will finish in December. They are planning to tour Indonesia, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. Brian Lavery ’94 married Seema Limaye last fall. The couple met at UIC Medical School and are presently residents at the University of Rochester, N.Y. Both are doctors in internal medicine.
Four Calvin friends had a “Gamma Girls” reunion last fall in Byron Center, Michigan: Liz Boot Tanja ’90, Kim Ragle Luurtsema ’90, Ann Marie Dunn Kingsbury ’90 and Wendi Schneider Serna ’90. Says Wendi “We all felt like we had just seen each other, but in reality it had been 11 years! Christian friendships definitely have a special bond!”
Nicole Bossenbroek ’98 received a doctor of medicine degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in May of 2002. Nicole has begun a transitional residency in the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Program in Ann Arbor, Mich. In July 2003, she will begin a dermatology residency in the Henry Ford Hospital Program in Detroit, Mich. Among Nicole’s graduating honors were The Merck Manual Award for scholastic achievement, the American Medical Women’s Association Glasgow Memorial Scholarship Achievement Citation and The Hiram B. Benjamin Award in Anatomy.
Malinda Viel ’99 graduated from the University of Denver College of Law in May of 2002. She received the Transportation Lawyers Association scholarship, was a member of the Christian Law Association, wrote for the Transportation Law Journal, and was president of the Sports and Entertainment Society. She will be married to Robert Sutton this fall.
