Alumni blogs African journey
In January, after graduating from New York University with a master’s in journalism and a year of writing at Black Enterprise Magazine, Kingsley "Junior” Kanu ’06 set out on a seven-city tour of Africa to interview young Africans about their hopes and dream for, and complaints about, the continent. He plans to keep a travel blog along the way and, upon return to the States, write a book that will argue, he writes, “that the fate of Africa does not rest in the hands of international aid organizations, but in the hand of Africa’s growing educated and privileged middle class…Africans like me.” Beyond the book, Junior hopes to help establish a network of young Africans on the continent, in the United States and United Kingdom, and an annual “Solving Africa” conference. “I am,” Junior adds, “an unapologetic idealist.” To follow Junior on his African journey, visit www.solvingafrica.com.
