Week Three Session Summary
Week 3: What do I believe? This week will begin in the chapel with a plenary session entitled "The Shape of Faith in College." This panel presentation of three staff members will recall their faith process as they went through four years of college or university. The emphasis will be on the different types of journeys and questions that are commonly raised as one enters the higher education environment. There will be a time for reactions to the plenary before the break.

The idea of responsible freedom and relationship to God, as raised by Lee Hardy in his "Memo to the President" will be discussed. The focus of class discussion will switch to the process of contemplation. In chapter 5 of his book, Dr. Quentin Schultze examines such topics as leisure, Sabbath rest, contemplation and formal worship. Students will be asked to reflect on the question "What do you believe?" as well as encouraged to write their own creed, considering the topics of Sabbath, leisure, contemplation and formal worship. Readings will also include Knowing The Will of God by Gerard Sittser.
