The Calvin Parent Council, an initiative of Calvin’s parent relations program, serves as a key leadership board to engage Calvin parents in constructive dialogue and activity. The Parent Council meets twice a year, during October and February, and includes parents or stepparents of students from each graduating class. The next Parent Council meeting will be held during Siblings Weekend, February 2008.

Parent Council members are asked to serve a term of one or two years, with the option of serving a second term. Parents are invited to serve jointly on the council with a spouse, though this is not required. It is intended that the membership of the Parent Council reflect the demographics of the Calvin student body.

Parent Council meetings are held on campus in conjunction with two parent/family events: Family Weekend (October) and Siblings Weekend (February). Parent Council members are asked to provide their own transportation and lodging for the meetings; some meals will be provided by the college in conjunction with Parent Council sessions.

Jim and Sara Miller of Aurora, Ohio serve as the co-chairs of Calvin’s Parent Council beginning in October 2006. The Millers have served on the Parent Council since its inception in October 2004. Jim and Sara are parents of two Calvin students: Samantha, who is entering her senior year, and Jessica, who is a sophomore at Calvin. The Millers follow John and Marilyn Wiesehan of St. Louis, Missouri, who co-chaired the Council for the past two years. The Wiesehans will continue as members of the Parent Council during the 2006-2007 academic year.
