Mentoring a Student

Small group mentoring
The mentoring program at Calvin places students into relationships with Christian mentors who are a little farther along in their journey. The mentor serves as a model and a friend, sharing stories, giving and receiving guidance, and providing encouragement.

Mentors are Calvin faculty, staff, alumni, and friends of the college. Calvin parents who live within the greater Grand Rapids area are invited to consider mentoring a student as an important opportunity to participate in the Calvin community.

The Mentoring Office is in need of 50 additional mentors for new or returning students. This opportunity involves an initial commitment to meet with a student six times during the semester for about an hour. The Mentoring Office provides mentors with a resource that suggests a new topic for each week, helping student and mentor to learn eachother's stories. At the end of six weeks both student and mentor have an opportunity to decide together whether you would like to continue meeting.

A mentor can provide hope, optimism, accountability, and helpful objectivity for a student during the challenging college years. Please consider being a mentor to a student this year. For more information call 616-526-7274 or visit the Mentoring Web site.
