Family Weekend

Please join us for Family Weekend 2013. This week's highlighted event:

The Climbing Wall will be open on Friday (4–6 p.m.) and Saturday, (9–10:30 a.m., 10:30–Noon, Noon–1:30 p.m.). Registrations for 20 participants will be taken in advance for each time slot at parents@calvin.edu. Send your preferred time and the names/ages of all climbers. In addition, the Venema Aquatic Center will be hosting open swim on Friday (6–9 p.m.) and Saturday (9–10:30 a.m.).

Flu shots

Health services will be hosting the first flu clinic on Thursday, October 10, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Check-in will be located in the upper level lobby area of the Spoelhof Fieldhouse Complex Building (near the stairwell leading to the locker rooms). Read more about Influenza and the Flu Vaccine from health services.

NEW THIS YEAR: We have the capability to bill your insurance company.  In order for us to be able to do so, you MUST bring your insurance card, as well as have the birth date of the primary cardholder (parent, guardian, self, spouse, etc.). Without those two things, we will not be able to bill your insurance. You will be given the opportunity to collect the appropriate information prior to being vaccinated or asked to come back to a later clinic. In the event that we will be unable to bill your insurance or you wish us not too, you may pay using cash, check or have it billed to your misc. account (current Calvin students only).

Flu Shot $25, Flu Mist $30
Future Flu Clinic Dates: October 22 & 31 (times TBD)

Student Treats

Student Treats are ready for 2013-2014! These "care packages" are a fun and easy way to let your student know, throughout the year, that you are thinking of them. With the chance to write a personal note on each treat, they will feel—and sometimes taste—the love!

Our next order deadline is for the Gourmet Apple Treat ($15) on Tuesday, October 29, 2013; delivered November 4. Find out more and order now »

Chicago job fair

On Tuesday, October 29, Calvin’s career development office and the alumni association are sponsoring the inaugural Calvin in Chicago Career Fair. This event will include Chicago area employers recruiting for internship and entry-level employment opportunities. Students can register and pay their $25 registration fee (which covers transportation and lunch) on the event page now.

UNLEARN Week

UNLEARN Week, October 6–11, 2013, is a week full of intentional programming centered on anti-racism. Programs and events are designed to challenge the many generalizations, stereotypes and assumptions that maintain racism in our society. Events include interactive workshops, lectures, plays and more. Find out what events are planned on the Multicultural Student Development Office calendar.

Advising dates

Calvin sets aside two days for Academic Advising each semester. The dates for this fall are October 29 and 30. This is a time when classes are not in session so that faculty can meet with their advisees. Students are instructed to meet with their advisor during this time and to prepare for registration. In fact, students must meet with their assigned advisor in order to be cleared for registration through the Calvin Portal. Please do all you can to encourage your son and daughter to take full advantage of these two days. In addition to meeting with an advisor, this is a good time to get caught up on reading assignments and paper writing. It should not be a time to leave campus for a long weekend getaway. Find out more information online. Questions? Please feel free to contact us at advise@calvin.edu.
