We hope you are planning to join us this weekend for Homecoming & Family Weekend, October 19–21, 2012. There's still time to register for activities and get tickets for events. For easy access to a schedule and an activities map (.pdf), download the Calvin phone app.
We will have a welcome station/ticket pickup desk (Friday, 9 a.m. — 5 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.) in the Spoelhof Fieldhouse Complex. For those who have pre-registered, this is where you pick up a map and any tickets you ordered. If you are unable to stop by during the posted hours, your tickets or reservations will be at the door of your event.
If you want to visit classes on Friday, here are the lists:
Open class list by department (.pdf)
Open class list by time (.pdf)
Closed classes (.pdf)
There's still time to reserve a spot at dinner on Friday for the Family Weekend Tailgate (5:30 p.m.) in the Huizenga Tennis and Track Center (in the Spoelhof Fieldhouse Complex). This dinner is casual. Hang out with your student(s) and their friends. Fun activities are planned, too! (Photo booth, anyone?)
Be sure to check the full schedule and the page for parents and families so you can plan your time with us. See you soon!
Can’t make it to campus this week/weekend? Both Saturday’s inauguration ceremony and Sunday’s LOFT service will be broadcast online: www.calvin.edu/go/live. You can always check that page to find out what events will be, or have recently been, broadcast such as chapel services, indoor sporting events and lectures.
Treat your student to an apple
Parents may send their student some "love" by having the parent relations team deliver a Student Treats to them during the school year. There are birthday, exam, holiday and special event treats to send for on- or off-campus students.
The next treat deadline (October 30) is for the gourmet apple treat. These gourmet apples are tart, juicy apples hand-dipped in layers of finest chocolate and creamy caramel. They weight 1.5 to 2 pounds each! There are three flavor choices: supreme, butter brickle and no nuts.
Order online now. You may also call Jen at (616) 526-6142, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or fax to (616) 526-7069.
Sports report, Game Day on Facebook
Even if you don't have a son/daughter on a Calvin team, you may be interested to follow the Knights and receive the daily Calvin Sports Report (CSR), an e-mail bulletin for game summaries and statistics, top performances, honors and honorees, rankings and previews. Your e-mail address will be kept private for CSR use, only! Find out more and subscribe or manage your subscription here.
You might also "Like" the Calvin Game Day Facebook page. The Game Day Staff is working to promote student attendance at all Calvin sporting events. Stay connected with our Facebook page for news, stories, updates and more!
Calvin in 24
Did you hear about Calvin in 24 on Friday, October 12, 2012? The day photographically unfolded online for Calvin students, faculty and staff. This timelapse video by freshman Joshua Bowen was a fun entry!
Job Fair deadline
On Wednesday, October 24, 2012, Calvin is sponsoring the inaugural Chicago Job Fair for students and young alumni. They will network with each other and discuss employment and internship opportunities. Students have until October 17 to register online ($25).
The Calvin Network of Chicago will be hosting a pizza dinner for students and alumni that evening, from 5:30-6:30 p.m., at the University Club. The dinner is just $5 (and is included in the $25 registration for those attending the mid-day portion of the event).
