Students' summers

Seventy-one Entrada Scholars have begun their month-long summer course at Calvin.

Carissa Verkaik receives another scholar-athlete award.

Read the Snow Mountain Ranch Leadership Challenge Institute blog. Find out what the Leadership Challenge Institute is all about.

This summer, Calvin students are busy—from working the Google HelpDesk in Seattle to engineering a bridge in Kenya. Read all the stories in the We Are Calvin series on News and Stories.

Parents, grandparents and family members:
You are cordially invited to participate in the 44th annual Calvin Golf Tournament, Saturday, September 7, at Pilgrim's Run Golf Club in Pierson, Mich., an award-winning golf course. Proceeds for the tournament go toward scholarships for Calvin first-year students. See and get in on the "early bird" registration by July 15. Please join us!

Events and activities are scheduled all year long—and throughout the world—for alumni and friends (parents, grandparents and families). Visit the alumni association pages to see the list which is updated regularly.

If you are a Calvin alum, don't forget about your reunions for 10-, 25-, 40- and 45-year (at Homecoming and Family Weekend); 50-year (at Commencement); and Heritage (during summer)!

Bible study

For this year's campus-wide Bible study, we'll be using John Goldingay's, "Exodus and Leviticus for Everyone," along with study questions provided by the campus ministries office. Students will do a 10-week study, but other participants could use these materials on a different cycle. If you are interested in leading an Exodus study group in your church or community, e-mail with your name and info about the group; the parent relations office is offering a free copy of Goldingay's book to the first 10 group leaders seriously exploring this option. More information for individual parents who want to study with us will be available later this summer.

PASSPORT is a day and a half summer program designed for new students and adult family members to learn about Calvin through activities and creative workshops that highlight the range of opportunities at Calvin.

PASSPORT I: July 1 (8 a.m. – 11 p.m.), July 2 (8 a.m. – 5 p.m.)

Parents: Five days, five dollars

Five days from now, on June 30, Calvin's fiscal year will close. We currently have about 700 fewer Calvin Annual Fund donors than we did at this time last year. Parents, if you haven't made your annual fund gift yet this year, please give just $5 to support students at Calvin. Visit to give your five--and raise participation--today! If you've already given to the annual fund this year, thank you for supporting every student, every day!

Faculty, alumni

At Calvin, students learn from the best. Biology professor Anding Shen is a prominent player in HIV research. Read more about her work.

Read a profile about political science professor Joel Westra.

On June 21, many alumni—23, actually!—have begun a 3783 mile journey on bicycles from Newport Beach, Calif., to Staten Island, N.Y. They bike with Sea to Sea to fight poverty. Another 40 will be participating in certain weeks of the ride, and even more are providing support for the trip. Find tour info, cyclist bios and blogs online. The Calvin community will welcome them to campus on August 3-4!
