Calvin-Parents E-Newsletter: April 30, 2013

Four Calvin engineering students have recently won a disaster shelter competition. These student will be presenting their project at the annual Senior Projects Night Open House, this Saturday, May 4, at 4 p.m. in the Vermeer Engineering Projects Center and Prince Engineering Design Center. There will be 17 projects this year, including a Smart dashboard, a submersible robot and a wastewater treatment system for a village in Ecuador. All are invited!

As many parents prepare for graduation, Brenna Hannan's parents continue to care for their daughter who would have graduated this spring. Read more about Brenna and her journey via her CarePage (CarePages name: BrennaHannan), and consider sending her parents a note of encouragement as they have ministered to their daughter for over three years, relocating from Ohio, and continue faithfully by her bedside. You may do so on CarePages, or with this address: Katrina and Tim Hannan, 5905 Tumbleweed Dr. SW, Grandville, MI 49418.

Parent Council

The Parent Council meets on campus twice annually during Family Weekend (October) and Siblings Weekend (February). This group keeps the conversation going between the college and parents, and act as admissions ambassadors. At meetings, they interact with the president/vice-presidents to discuss all manner of details—from academics to administration. Members are asked to serve for two years and provide their own transportation/lodging for meetings.

Interested? E-mail with information about you/your family and why you are interested. Or just e-mail us if you have more questions. We look forward to hearing from you!

Nursing pin

The 2013 Nursing Pinning Ceremony, Thursday, May 16, is a tradition when all graduating nursing students, along with their family and friends, join together to celebrate receiving a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN). In this ceremony, each student is traditionally and proudly “pinned” with Calvin’s own nursing pin, as a special signature of completing a baccalaureate degree in nursing and being eligible to take the state RN licensure examination. Here is the link if you would like to purchase a nursing pin for your son, daughter or grandchild. See you in May!
