Calvin's Homecoming & Family Weekend is now in the fall: October 22 & 23, 2010. With many events going on all week and weekend, you will easily find a reason to visit Calvin during the beautiful fall colors on campus. See the complete schedule of activities that links to ticketing, reservations and more information, and this webpage for more information about activities that are being planned especially for you. Many questions that parents have asked are answered on that page.
Thanks for your interest and feedback! If you have questions, please call (616) 526-6142 or e-mail email@example.com.
The Family Weekend Banquet is one of the fellowship highlights of the Homecoming & Family Weekend. Chaplain Mary Hulst will be the featured speaker this year who recently gave the Convocation address, "YES! And...", which is available online. The banquet has become a popular family gathering on Friday evening but there is limited seating; please reserve your spot soon as we are filling up quickly. Here are pictures from the banquet last year.
The full schedule for the weekend is found here so you can plan what else you'd like to do while you visit. Consider going on a tour of campus or Grand Rapids, cheering at a sporting event, or meeting up with your student at a late night ice cream social. There will soon be a list of classes that are open on Friday that you can visit. Stay tuned!
Did you get a chance to view any of the photos from Calvin's photographic spotlight day, Calvin in 24, on and of October 6, 2010? Many students, faculty and staff participated, and the proof is in the thousands of photographs that cover every inch of campus and the world: professors teaching, staffers staffing, students serenading, dancing, eating, re-enacting great works of art--plus, there are squirrels!
Anytime you want to see photos from campus, visit the Roving WebCam (RWC) photo gallery. This gallery includes photos from student photographers that wander about Calvin's campus capturing images of people, places and events that help "tell the story" of the everyday Calvin experience. (There is a gallery for Calvin in 24 and for the Cardboard Canoe Contest.) A quick link to the RWC is to click on the photo next to the daily news message on Calvin's home page and you'll arrive at the photo galleries page. There you'll find the following photo galleries, updated often: Roving WebCam, Campus Life, Sports and Alumni.
Calvin College reserves two days each semester for academic advising and the fall dates are October 26 and 27. This is a time when classes are not in session so that faculty can meet with their advisees. Feel free to check out this short video clip on academic advising from a student's perspective. More information about academic advising---tips, videos, and a link to their KnightVision resources---is found here.
Students are instructed to schedule an appointment with each of their faculty advisors (one or more depending on the number of majors a student is pursuing) and prepare for registration. Students must meet with their assigned advisor in order to be cleared for KnightVision registration. Please do all you can to encourage your son or daughter to take full advantage of these two days on campus. In addition to meeting with an advisor, this is a good time to get caught up on reading assignments and writing papers. It should not be a time to leave campus for a long weekend get-away.
Questions? Please feel free to contact associate director of academic advising Dana Hebreard (616-526-6040).
Did you know that on October 20, 1966, the Fine Arts Center was dedicated on Calvin’s Knollcrest Campus. Exactly forty-four years later, with gratitude to God, we will celebrate the newly renovated Covenant Fine Arts Center (CFAC) on Wednesday, October 20, 2010. Please join us as we celebrate this major event, which leads up to Homecoming & Family Weekend. Events that will be taking place in the CFAC are featured on the dedication event page and include participation by the English and art departments, both of which will enjoy space in the new facility. Please send event-related inquiries to firstname.lastname@example.org.
For now, you are able to watch video tours and see live webcams from the Covenant Fine Arts Center renovation.
