"Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." Philippians 1:6
The Calvin student body, faculty and staff gather this morning, Tuesday, September 7, at 9:50 a.m., for Convocation 2010 in the Van Noord Arena on campus. Chaplain Dr. Mary Hulst's message is, "Yes! And..." which focuses on Philippians 1:6.
Parents anywhere are able to watch the video of the Convocation 2010 service live online. After the service you can watch the Commons Lawn fill with students, faculty, and staff for a cookout until 2 p.m. All college offices and services will be closed during Convocation and the class schedule is revised so that all may attend.
There are other ways that parents can "attend" services on campus. There is a live broadcast of daily chapel services from 10:00-10:20 a.m. (EST) and the Sunday evening LOFT services are available online. (The live feed is available a few moments before the services begin.) Both of these worship opportunities are archived on Vimeo so you can watch on demand.
As the campus gathers in corporate worship today at Convocation 2010, many are worshiping privately in prayer for Calvin College all throughout the year. From the Praying with Calvin website, "Praise God for His faithfulness as Calvin begins its 134th year! Give Him thanks and remember all He has done. Lift up Calvin College for His guidance and protection."
This Praying with Calvin page will be updated occasionally throughout the year with general recommendations for prayers for the Calvin community. There are also many prayer resources found on this page which may be helpful to you. Sharon Bytwerk is the coordinator for spiritual direction and prayer on campus (616-526-8872; email@example.com) and she meets regularly with students about prayer and prays with and for them.
Please join us in prayer for Calvin College and the students, faculty, and staff as we begin the 2010-2011 school year.
Now in its seventh year, the Gainey Leadership Retreat for Calvin's student-athletes continues to thrive. The week-long retreat, which takes place in mid-August at the Two Moose Ranch in southwest Montana, builds leadership skills in the leaders of Calvin's sports teams, both at the club and varsity levels.
Every summer, 33 student-athletes, representing each of Calvin's 17 varsity and three club sports teams, are selected by their respective coaching staffs to participate in the annual retreat. While in Montana, the student-athletes are mentored by Calvin's campus ministries, student life and athletics department staff. Read more about this year's retreat.

Calvin students have landed internships all over the globe—some right here in west Michigan. See what Calvin interns are doing---up and down the landscape. In 2009-2010, 749 Calvin students interned at 521 different sites.

Also, many southern California alumni and friends recently gathered at Huntington Beach to hangout and cookout.

Student Treats are a fun and easy way to let your student know that you're thinking of them. Everybody loves to give and get treats! There are six seasonal treats and three special occasion or "anytime" treats available. Encourage and surprise your student with a delicious gourmet apple, a box of goodies at exam time, or a sweet Valentines treat.
You can order them individually or as a "Year of Treats" package (which includes a FREE birthday treat) but that offer expires on September 15. Treats may also be ordered for students who live off campus. Although treats cannot be delivered to off-campus locations, those students will receive an e-mail notification and can pick up their treat in the registrar's office.
