Calvin's 91st Commencement was Saturday, May 21, 2011. Events for the celebratory weekend included the 50th reunion of the Class of 1961 and presentation of this year's Distinguished Alumni Award to Mary Vermeer Andringa '72 and Robert Rooy '70.

President Byker: Leaving a Legacy

President Gaylen Byker will retire after the 2011-2012 school year. During his tenure, the college has re-envisioned its core curriculum, augmented its academic programs, expanded its campus across the East Beltline, renovated old facilities and constructed new ones, hosted a major art exhibition, welcomed the President of the United States as Commencement speaker, conducted a capital campaign, established six endowed chairs and eight centers and institutes, and greatly enhanced its global presence.

Distinguished Alumni Awards

Coach Bret Otte was named Division III Great Lakes Regional Women’s Track & Field Coach of the Year.

The Calvin men’s and women’s track and field teams will send 12 athletes to the upcoming NCAA III Track and Field Championships.  Alyssa Penning was the latest to qualify for NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

A Special Olympics competition took place on campus May 7, and the Calvin softball team spent the day volunteering with the Special Olympians.


Calvin-Parents summer schedule

Because student life and campus activities slow down during the summer months, Calvin-Parents will be published less frequently starting in June.  Weekly issues of Calvin-Parents will resume again at the end of August. Summer Slam

The Calvin Summer Slam is a high school basketball tournament on Calvin's campus. High school girls and boys basketball teams from around the country are offered the chance to play and stay on Calvin’s campus for three days.  Read more about Summer Slam.
