Valentine Treat deadline today!
Send your student this sweet treat for Valentine's Day: a hand-made gourmet pretzel, a $5 gift certificate to Johnny's and fun snacks (including a few "kisses"), delivered to your student on Valentine's Day. The Valentine Treat ($20) is included in the Year of Treats. The order deadline is today, Tuesday, February 8, 2011, and this gift will be delivered to students on Monday, February 14.
Remember that you can surprise your student with the popular Pizza Treat ($20), which can be ordered anytime and often! This treat features a certificate for a large, two-topping pizza delivered from a favorite local pizzeria. Celebrate a birthday, a special occasion, or remember your student "just because" it's the weekend and he or she has been working hard on his or her studies.
And there are Birthday Treats, too. For more information on any treat, please visit the Student Treats site.
Black History Month
In celebration of Black History Month, Calvin’s offices of multicultural student development and multicultural affairs are co-sponsoring events with the CAS, history, music and English departments.
It’s important to study black history, according to Ebonie Atkins, assistant in the office of multicultural affairs, “to learn about culture and celebrate black American’s contributions to our society. It’s also important to reflect on the culture of others so that we … understand how the culture we were raised in shapes the people we are today.” Read more.
Siblings (or cousin, niece, young neighbor) Weekend
Does your son or daughter have a younger brother or sister (or cousin, nephew, etc.) that would love to visit him or her on campus? While guests are certainly welcome all year long, it is especially fun for young visitors to come during Siblings Weekend, February 25-27, 2011.
This annual event is sponsored by residence life, with help from student activities, food service, and the campus store. A number of fun activities and events have been planned, and siblings can eat any and all meals as part of the $24 registration fee.
For information and registration, please visit the Siblings Weekend page and help us spread the word to anyone that may want to join in on the fun!

Career advice for juniors and sophomores
Are you the parent of a junior or sophomore student? Did you know that many employers expect students to complete at least one internship by the time they graduate?
Internships give students the opportunity to explore a specific career field of interest and obtain experience that will enhance a resume and improve skills. If your son or daughter is looking for an internship for the summer or next fall, encourage them to visit the career development office. Staff members are available to assist students search for an internship, create a resume, and practice interviewing skills.
Students can call 616-526-6485 or stop by the career development office (372 Hekman Library) to set up an appointment. More resources are also available on the career development website, or find us on Facebook.

Scholarships
Current students have been informed of the opportunity to apply for named and departmental scholarships for 2011-2012. These "named" scholarships are established by donors for students who meet specific eligibility criteria, often based on factors such as academic major, intended career goal, GPA, minority status, etc.
Students can access an online search tool to assist with this process. The application form for many of these scholarships are all available online. The application is due March 1, 2011. All current students who will be attending Calvin next year are encouraged to apply! Students can access and complete the application on KnightVision: KnightVision> My Resources> Student Scholarships and Financial Aid>Upperclass Named Scholarship Application.
