MIAA titles for cross country and soccer

Saturday’s 1-1 tie for the men's soccer team allows them to clinch their second straight automatic NCAA tournament berth and a share of the Knights’ second straight MIAA championship. The tie was a bit bittersweet for Calvin as Hope tied the game on a goal with less than a minute left in regulation. The Calvin men’s and women’s cross country teams kept up their championship runs on Saturday as both teams wrapped up league titles at the MIAA Championships. The fifth-ranked Calvin men’s cross country team took first place with 18 points while the top-ranked Calvin women’s cross country team took first place with 23 points. The Calvin men’s cross country team has now won at least a share of the MIAA title 22 consecutive years which ranks as the second-longest active championship streak in MIAA history.

Message for new college parents:  How can I make sure my student goes to class?

Well, you really can't. At this point, parents should rest on the assurance that despite mistakes and imperfections, you have provided your student with a foundation to do the right thing based on solid values. Although sometimes parents wonder about that, our experience is that the vast majority of Calvin students have been blessed with good parents. As parents you can continue to pray that God will guide, direct, and sustain. While here, your student will learn how to manage their time, grow in their personal Christian faith and critically examine the faith of their parents. While this may be anxiety-provoking for some parents, it is a necessary step for the cultivation of a personal and vibrant Christian life. (Message submitted by Randy Wolthuis, Ph.D., Director of the Broene Counseling Center.)
