Calvin-Parents is an e-mail newsletter from the Parent & Family Relations office that keeps Calvin parents and families informed of campus news, programs, events and other helpful information.

Voter registration available

College students may register to vote either at a college address, or a hometown or parent's address. If you register at your hometown address and want to vote while attending college, you must remember to request an absentee ballot before the election. Check with the your state's election board for the exact deadline. To vote in a either a general or gubernatorial election, Michigan residents must register with the state at least 30 days in advance. The registrar's office has all the information you will need!

Health services requirements and forms

Calvin requires all new students to complete a health history form and to show proof of their immunization and health insurance status. You are NOT required to have a physical exam, although a health care provider's signature is required on your immunization history form. All the forms and information can be accessed through Health Services. On this site, there is also helpful tips for parents, a newsletter and phone numbers you can call if you want to speak to someone. You may also email them at health@calvin.edu.

Dorm Kit available: save time, money and packing space!

Save time, money, and packing space by purchasing a Dorm Kit from the online Campus Store. What does it contain? It has a pop open hamper filled with necessary items for every student living away from home. Enter your home address for billing and shipping, but your kit will be packed and ready for your student on move-in day. Total value of the kit is $109.04 (35% savings!). . .

Inner Compass: Calvin's award-winning television show

Inner Compass is Calvin's award-winning television interview show that explores how people make their decisions about ethical, religious, and social justice issues. Guests include authors, activists, religious leaders, and engaging thinkers from around the world. This program airs on local PBS stations and the campus cable channel, but will be distributed to PBS stations throughout the country starting September 28, 2008. Check the Parent Calendar for important dates

Bookmark the Parent Calendar page (which also links to other campus event calendars) to keep track of important dates throughout the year, including:

  • September 1-3: PASSPORT IV ( orientation for students and families who must travel long distances)
  • September 2: Tuition, room and board payment due
  • September 3-6: QUEST fall orientation for new & transfer students begins and residence halls open for them
  • September 5: Residence halls and KE apartments open for returning students
  • September 8: Fall semester classes begin at 8:00 a.m.; Opening Convocation at 9:50 a.m.
  • September 11: Mandatory meeting for all prospective and returning athletes. Information available from the coaches.

News & Stories from campus

Check out a wealth of great stories on the News & Stories web site, including an inside look at Calvin's rapidly progressing Spoelhof Fieldhouse Complex. There are photos, facts and a two-minute Vimeo video. Also, the Asian Studies program has secured a Freeman Foundation grant that will help this rapidly growing area of study become even more important. One student will also soon be on his way to Beijing to study.
