All are invited to the Calvin Around Town event featuring the Calvin OrchestraPlease join us for our next Calvin Around Town at the Frauenthal Center for Performing Arts in Downtown Muskegon on Thursday, March 5, 2009. The evening's highlights include a hors d'oeuvre reception, tours of the historic theater, and admission to the Calvin College Orchestra’s annual Concerto Concert under the baton of conductor Robert Nordling. You can register for the event ($10) on the Calvin Around Town secure registration site.
Department of nursing admission decisionsCalvin students who have made application to the upper division nursing major for the fall of 2009 will receive notification of acceptance or non-acceptance this week. Those who are not admitted will be offered support and encouragement via their academic advisor, the Broene Counseling Center and Career Development. Please feel free to contact the nursing department at 616-526-7076 with any questions you may have.
Women's Chorale tour of Pacific NorthwestCalvin Woman's Chorale, an honor choir founded and led by Dr. Pearl Shangkuan, will tour Oregon, Washington and British Columbia during the college's spring break, March 21-28, 2009.The Calvin Woman's Chorale has already performed at festivals throughout Michigan and sings at the annual Fall Music Festival, the Festival of Lessons and Carols, and presents a full concert each spring. The chorale toured the East Coast in 2005 and, following that tour, the choir released its debut recording, Music Down in My Soul. In 2007, the chorale spent three weeks on an tour to South Korea, China and Southern California.
UnBorn eventsThe Calvin College Republicans are proud to host a series of events featuring different speakers, focusing on domestic and international life issues, in DeVos Room 150, Tuesday through Thursday of this week.
Student Treats: PopcornThe next installment of student treats to order for your student features popcorn! Your student can dive into a bag of popcorn to help get back into school after spring break. They'll also need some snacks (and maybe more to share?) to help with the last push until exams. The Popcorn Treat features three bags of deluxe, flavored popcorn—caramel, cheese, and butter—and includes a personal-sized bag of the fruity favorite "Monster Munch."
From the office of the presidentI am pleased to inform the Calvin community that I have offered the position of College Chaplain to Rev. Dr. Mary Hulst and she has graciously accepted the position, pending a successful PSC (Professional Status Committee) interview. We are grateful to God for her willingness to accept this call on her life and to continue to serve the Christian Reformed Church as the new College Chaplain.

Consider checking the archives of the January Series lecture and cultural/arts series which covers topics as diverse as the world of ideas. There are also archives for Inner Compass, Calvin's television interview show that explores how people make their decisions about a wide variety of ethical, religious, and social justice issues. And, while you are looking, bookmark the entire collection of audio resources on Calvin's site, housed on Minds in the Making, an e-collection from Calvin.
PRISM 2008-2009For only $10 you can purchase the 2008-2009 edition of the PRISM, Calvin's yearbook! This full-color book has over 180 pages filled with photographs and articles about students' lives and experiences at Calvin throughout this school year. PRISM will feature sports, student organizations, service-learning, faith, residence halls, and student life-- this is a fantastic way to get a peek into your student's life at college!
