If you're starting Calvin in the fall as a transfer student, QUEST is for you. QUEST is a three-and-a-half day program that takes place just before school begins in the fall from August 27 - August 30, 2014. There will also be planned optional activities on September 1.
Your family members are welcome during move-in day and for an evening cookout on the Commons lawn. Following dinner, QUEST starts and is designed just for you.
Expect a warm welcome to Calvin! At QUEST you’ll meet a lot of new people: more than 1,000 other new students and potential Facebook friends, plus current students, professors, and staff members. You’ll learn a lot about Calvin and the resources that are here for you.
During QUEST, you’ll connect with an orientation group of about 20 other transfer students who will go through QUEST together.
Quest includes a service opportunity, Streetfest, where you’ll learn about the eclectic neighborhoods in Grand Rapids—Eastown, Heritage Hill, Downtown. Expect to have a lot of fun! By the end, you may be a bit tired (the days are full from approximately 9:00am into the evening), but you’ll be ready for classes to begin on Tuesday, September 2.
"Calvin College is a comprehensive liberal arts college in the Reformed tradition of historic Christianity. Through our learning, we seek to be agents of renewal in the academy, church and society. We pledge fidelity to Jesus Christ, offering our hearts and lives to do God’s work in God’s world."
In the QUEST program, we’ll look at some of these aspects of Calvin’s vision:
You may move on to campus Wednesday, August 27 after 9:00 a.m. QUEST officially begins with an all-campus cookout at 5:00 p.m. with opening activities starting at 6:30 p.m.
Upon arrival, follow the road signs to your residence hall where you can check in after 9:00 a.m. You will be greeted by an army of "We-Haulers"--students who are eager to transport all of your belongings from your vehicle into your residence hall room! You will have the entire day to get settled into your room. Your Orientation Leader (OL) will post a note on your door telling you your orientation group number. Following dinner you will assemble with your orientation group.
You are welcome to have lunch and dinner on-campus during the day on August 27. You will receive a phone call to your off-campus residence from your Orientation Leader (OL) telling you your orientation group number which you will meet following dinner. We do not offer on-campus sleeping accommodations during QUEST, but all the meals during QUEST are included for you.
All meals for new first-year, transfer residents and off-campus students are included during QUEST, beginning with lunch on Wednesday, August 27, and continuing through supper on Monday, September 1.
