Wilderness Orientation is the best way to kick-off college: with an adventure. I love to teach technical skills, meet students on a peer level and watch them embrace wilderness as a new habitat.

I'm a Sophomore Biology and Environmental Studies Major who loves exploring the natural world both academically and through trips like this. I've been leading and participating in adventure trips since I graduated from a NOLS semester course in high school. I love the community that is built on these trips and the simplicity of pace. No trip is ever the same, but all are exciting and life changing!

Because of my involvement in Calvin Outdoor Rec, I have a lot of fond memories and unflattering pictures from the North Channel, the Red River Gorge, Manistee National Forest, the Appalachian Trail and the Colorado Rockies. I seek out those opportunities because of a love for nature and a thirst for adventure, but mostly because they are experiences of great joy, incredible community and refreshing closeness with God. They have been formative for my Calvin experience in developing lasting friendships, gaining new skills and learning to practice rest and Sabbath alongside some good, hard work. I can’t wait to return to the Rockies and share another adventure with new friends.

I went on a wildness trip as a freshman and loved it! I have been in the wilderness as much as I can because I think it is truly an amazing place. I am so excited to go with people again in to a place isolated from the rest of the world. Can't wait to go in to the mountains!
