Adult family members participate with their student in one of three summer orientation PASSPORT sessions with your student!

PASSPORT for families is a day and a half summer program designed for you as an adult family member as well as your new student. Learn about Calvin through seminars and discussions that highlight the range of opportunities and services for your student.

Wilderness Orientation families

If you’re a family member of a student who is attending one of our Wilderness Orientation trips, you are encouraged to attend the on-campus PASSPORT session that corresponds to your student’s trip. However, the wilderness experience itself is just for your student!

  • PASSPORT I – June 30–July 1
  • PASSPORT II – July 14–15

What to expect at PASSPORT

At PASSPORT you will

  • Learn about services the college provides
  • Become familiar with the college's vision and curriculum
  • Attend a variety of workshops and model classes
  • Meet other family members and examine what this time of transition means for you as a family

Residence hall option

When your student registers you to attend PASSPORT, he or she will also be able to register you for on-campus accommodations in a residence hall for parents only. Couples will be given a dorm suite while individual parents will share a suite with another same-gendered parent.

Please note there is no charge to stay in the residence hall for students or parents. However, choosing not to stay in the residence hall will not affect your PASSPORT cost.

Prince Conference Center option

The Prince Conference Center is also available for on-campus housing, offering a limited number of rooms for a fee. When calling to reserve a room, mention that you are with the PASSPORT program and you will receive a slight discount.

We are unable to offer residence hall housing for PASSPORT III. Please arrange for your own housing either with the Prince Conference Center or an off-campus option.

Some things to keep in mind about registration:
  • Sessions close two weeks before the start the of the session. Please plan ahead.
  • Students register online for their choice of PASSPORT orientation dates. When they register themselves, they can also register you and any additional family members.
  • While we welcome all family members to attend PASSPORT for families, please note that the program is designed for adults. Younger family members are welcome to accompany parents, but we are unable to provide programming for them.
  • A $250 orientation fee will be charged to your student’s account in early September. This fee covers your student and up to two adult family members. Each additional family member is $50. Note that additional costs are associated with Wilderness Orientation.
  • Registration includes a housing option for PASSPORT I and II. There is no charge to stay in the residence halls for students or parents. Choosing not to stay in the residence hall will not affect your Orientation cost. Please note that there is an additional $25 fee for early arrival.
