Lenticular Galaxy (UGC 3939) , Jason Kim

This photograph is of a Lenticular Galaxy. This specific Lenticular Galaxy consists of a central bulge but without a disk, while many Lenticular Galaxies have disks. Lenticular Galaxies contain a lens-like appearance. These specific galaxies have appeared to lose their interstellar matter. Lenticulars are named S0 Galaxies and consist of a form found between ellipticals and sprial galaxies in the Hubble sequence classification scheme.

The Lenticular Galaxy is surrounded by many star clusters and bright stars. The Galaxy stands out between all of the stars to contain a sprial formation. By looking closely, one may notice the spiral formation on the outside of the Lenticular Galaxy.
