Seventeen guidance counselors from 10 U.S. states cycled through campus on Monday, July 2 commencing the 2012 ‘Tour d’Admission,” a nearly annual trip that began in 2002 with Taylor Smith, then a counselor at Episcopal High School in Jacksonville, Fla., combining his love for cycling with his day job of visiting colleges during the summer. “The Calvin community has been so gracious to let us use their campus as our base of operation,” said Kirk Blackard, director of college guidance for Christ School of Asheville, North Carolina. This year’s group will cycle 260-miles for the first leg of the 2,400-mile journey, visiting a handful of colleges and universities on their road trip to Chicago.
