Dr. Nico Koopman

Professor Nico Koopman teaches theology and ethics in the Faculty of Theology at Stellenbosch University, in the Western Cape. He also directs the Beyers Naude Centre for Public Theology, at the university. Koopman was for a time a pastor and the chaplain at the University of the Western Cape, where he earned his various academic degrees, including the doctorate in theology. He has published dozens of articles and several books, in which he ranges broadly across the classic questions of ethics and moral theology and relates them to politics, economics and public philosophy. His latest work, co-edited with Steve de Gruchy and Sytse Strijbos, is From Our Side: Emerging Perspectives on Development and Ethics (Amsterdam: Rozenberg, 2008).
