Welcome to “Spotlight”, a concert featuring student performances ranging from solo work to larger ensembles, from musical theater to early music. The casual concert atmosphere allows you to create your own unique musical experience by partaking in performances in two different venues. Make your evening complete by staying for the Calvin Music Festival immediately following.

Proceeds benefit Calvin College's music scholarship program.

Explore the wonder of eight ensembles, multiple solos and small chamber groups joining forces to create delight for the ears. In the spirit of Homecoming Weekend, the Calvin Music Festival revisits the collage style concert capturing all the department of music has to offer and so much more.

Tickets: $15 adults, $5 students
Proceeds benefit Calvin College's music scholarship program.

Don't miss SPOTLIGHT

Spotlight is a create-your-own-concert experience taking place one hour prior to the Calvin Music Festival. The concert will take place at 6:30pm on Friday night and 2:00pm on Saturday afternoon. Concert goers are encouraged to partake of performances in the CFAC Recital Hall and CFAC Auditorium. Tickets are free but required.

Ensemble Montage

Ensemble Montage

Formed in 1997, Ensemble Montage is dedicated to presenting kaleidoscopic combinations of chamber music ranging from the baroque trio sonata to music written by the group's member-composer Alexander Miller.  The group specializes in repertoire that mixes strings, woodwinds, and piano, but expands and contracts as repertoire demands – they've added percussion, voice, trumpet, an extra viola, double bass, and even accordion on occasion.

Tickets: Tickets are not required.

Lessons and Carols

Lessons & Carols - "Maranatha:  Come, Lord Jesus"

  • Location: LaGrave Avenue Christian Reformed Church

A service of scripture readings, carols, Advent hymns, and choral anthems which focus on Jesus' second coming and God's promise to usher in a kingdom of justice and peace. Calvin Women’s Chorale, under the direction of conductor Pearl Shangkuan, and the Campus Choir, under the direction of Sean Ivory, will lead the 42nd annual service of songs, hymns and scripture readings on Sunday, December 6. 

TICKETS: A free-will offering will be collected; tickets are not required.

Sleigh Ride

Sleigh Ride to Tinseltown

Fasten your seat belts, the Calvin College Wind Ensemble is ready to take you on a Sleigh Ride adventure around the world! Hear melodies from treasured Yuletide productions of stage and screen as the Calvin College Wind Ensemble takes you on a Sleigh Ride to Tinseltown. Enjoy video and clips and photos while the ensemble–decked out in festive costumes–performs the musical scores from Christmas classics. With great music, holiday traditions, and even a visit from Santa, this is an afternoon guaranteed to put all members of the family in the holiday spirit!

Tickets: $5 individual, $25 family

Allos Musica

Allos Musica

Founded in 2006 and featuring clarinet and various ethnic winds, the oud (an ancient Arabic lute), voice, accordion, and percussion instruments from around the world, Allos Musica explores the intersection of divergent streams of contemporary, classical, jazz, and traditional music from the Middle East and Europe. The sound created through original compositions and the ensemble's arrangements of Arabic and European folk music blends tradition and experimentation seamlessly.
