Welcome to the second season of —The Guest Artist Series! This series is designed to feature the most robust vocal ensembles and electrifying soloists on the music scene. Outstanding instrumentalists will be joining the series as well. So, make sure you have your tickets because you will not want to miss one moment of The Guest Artist Series.

Oratorio Society presents Handel’s Messiah

For ninety-six years the Calvin Oratorio Society has boldly presented Handel’s Messiah to generations of audiences. This season features conductor Prof. Sean Ivory. Prof. Ivory is a highly respected conductor and composer both locally and internationally recognized.

Hailed as “the premier men’s vocal ensemble in the United States” (Fanfare) and winner of the prestigious Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence from Chorus America, Cantus is acknowledged around the world for their programmatic versatility, artistic excellence and charismatic personality. Cantus' program, "The Four Loves", explores our most complex human emotion which has been a timeless inspiration for artistic expression. In addition to works by Poulenc, Grieg, Beethoven and Janacek, “The Four Loves” includes brand new works by David Lang, Joseph Gregorio, Ysaye Barnwell and Roger Treece.

Musical America’s 2004 Conductor of the Year, Joseph Flummerfelt’s artistry has been heard in many of the world’s concert halls for over 40 years. He is founder and musical director of the New York Choral Artists, and for 33 years was conductor of the world-renowned Westminster Choir. Flummerfelt will lead the Calvin Capella, Calvin Campus Choir, Women’s Chorale, Oratorio Society and Calvin Alumni Choir for an event that pushes all boundaries. Over 150 vocalists overwhelm the Covenant Fine Arts Center stage for a one-night-only event featuring several works by Brahms and the formidable Faure’s Requiem.
