| Practicing the Politics of Repentance In a talk given in the Spring of 2007, Professor Doug Koopman began a discussion about Christians, political arrogance and changing one’s mind. In an ideals-vs.-reality situation, can Christians accept the fact that sometimes politicians do not stay the course, but rather turn in a different direction to chart an entirely new one (as is said of Mitt Romney)? This turning—what Koopman calls “political repentance”—is inevitable, and even necessary, in an arena where temporary solutions are the best politicians can do to fix permanent problems. Koopman calls Christians to examine their expectations of government and consider how practicing a politics of repentance might be biblical.
