Background on Calvin's New Buildings October 25, 2002 The dedication ceremony began with a service of worship in the Calvin Chapel. Following the service was a procession across campus, over Calvin's Crossing, to the DeVos Communications Center and Prince Conference Center. October 23, 2002 Three galleries of the completed structures: Calvin's Crossing, DeVos Communication Center, and Prince Conference Center. July 30, 2002 Carpeting, fresh paint, and a movie theater take over the DeVos building. And the Prince building readies for guests holding October reservations. November 16, 2001 Bricks and stairs climb up the bridge towers, walls take shape on the second floor of DeVos, and the Prince building gains a magnificent conference space. November 2, 2001 The last span was placed around 4 pm completing the approximately 400 foot long pedestrian overpass. The finished bridge will be enclosed in glass with a rounded roof. October 20, 2001 From midnight to 5:30 a.m. construction took place over the north bound lane of the East Beltline with the installation of the third bridge span. The span is the shortest of four total making up the 400 foot bridge. October 6, 2001 From midnight to 5:30 a.m. construction took place over the south bound lane of the East Beltline with the installation of the first of four bridge spans. September 14, 2001 Ironworkers from Wolverine Construction display their support of America after the tragic events of September 11th. September 7, 2001 According to ironworker's tradition, and at the suggestion of Dr. Spoelhof, a flag atop a new building is good luck. Thus flies the maroon and gold. September 4, 2001 The pedestrian overpass towers move ahead with the MDOT's approval and the steel framework encloses the DeVos Communication Center. August 21, 2001 Steel columns are up! The DeVos Communication Center takes shape with its new support columns. These 3000 lbs columns went up in under 7 hours. August 20, 2001 Walls and floors everywhere. The Prince building gets a second floor and the DeVos building gets an elevator tower and the steel arrives for columns. July 27, 2001 Things are taking shape. The tunnels are built, the walkway continues to rise, and new walls give hints of windows. June 26, 2001 Construction workers set an incredible pace with their many machines. Walls, tunnels, and large piles of dirt continue to grow above and below the ground. May 30, 2001 Power for the East Campus will be generated at the recently expanded Hekman facilities. Concrete utility tunnels will bring the services to the new campus. May 1, 2001 The celebration of "Stepping East by God's Grace" will commence construction of the DeVos Communication Center and the Prince Conference Center. Read "East of Calvin" by Quentin J.
