What is the HDA?

The Hekman Digital Archive (HDA) is an online repository of digital files. Compared to a library's online catalog, the HDA contains both bibliographic records as well as the item that the record describes. The HDA wass created in order to facilitate the development, acquisition, and distribution of high-quality digital content for the benefit of academic scholarship at Calvin College and Calvin Theological Seminary.

Who can access the HDA?

HDA items are accessable at two different levels. Some items are available to anyone visiting the site, while others are restricted to those who hold valid KnightVision ID's. Typically, restricted items are those that cannot be displayed to the general public due to for copyright restrictions.

How can I add my images to the HDA?

As a digital archival system, some care must be taken to ensure the quality of each item that is added to the HDA. Calvin staff and faculty are invited to contact the Digital Resources Librarian to discuss different options in adding digital files to the HDA.

What types of materials can be added to the HDA?

Hekman Library staff will consider the addition of material if it benefits academic scholarship at Calvin College and Calvin Theological Seminary. As of March 2002, only image files have been added to the HDA, but work is being completed to add text files as well.
