There are three ways to add digital files into Hyperion.
- through the client-based software called Hyperion, upon which the
HDA is based.
- through the administrative module of the HDA, the HDAQ
- through batch loading digital files and an accompanying delimited
spreadsheet.
HDA participants may already have, or may whish to create, digital files
and accompanying documentation that describes these files. As long as
both the digital files and the describing document meet certain criteria,
it is possible for participants to avoid processing images and entering
the metadata into HDAQ. Once the digital images are ready, participants
can use any spreadsheet program to create a document that contains descriptive
data of the files. The column heads will contain the metadata elements,
and each row will represent one unique digital file. Contact the Electronic Services Librarian for more information on Batch loading into the
HDA.
Once the image and metadata have been batch loaded into HDAQ, participants
have the ability to go back and edit the files before they are uploaded
into the HDA.
Department: (e.g.) History
Collection: (e.g.) Doug Howard (hist1)
Go to the HDAQ login at http://www.calvin.edu/cgi-bin/lib/hdaq.pl,
or point to
- library's homepage
- A-Z Index
- HDAQ
Login: (e.g.) hist1
Password: (e.g.) h1st0ry
2. Choose "Edit an Entry" (in this case since all the images
and accompanying metadata have already been entered).
3. Choose the item to be edited. Keep track of the items that have been
editing.
4. Depending on the data in the spreadsheet file that has been batch
loaded, various fields might still need data, and some of the fields have
data to be edited (e.g.):
- Formal Name: title
- Creator: (all the same?)
- Local Notes: personal notes, etc
- Date of Original: (all the same?)
- Coverage: i.e., keywords
- Local Path: Academic Department/History/Turkey (is the current path)
5. Click on "Update Image" to complete the update.
Once you have done this to a record, Library staff will go back in and
assign Library of Congress Subject headings, and then upload it in the
HDA.
