Since 1967, the Hekman Library is a selective depository library for
United States government documents. Government documents are classified
by the SuDoc system. Nearly all our government
documents can be found by searching WebCat,
and the items in this collection do not circulate. Also, a significant
portion of the information published by the US Government can be found
online through the Hekman Library
Government Web pages.
Consult our tutorial on how to find
Government Documents.

| Hekman is one of two depositories in the third congressional
district in Michigan, which includes Barry, Ionia, and most of Kent counties.
The other depository library is Grand
Rapids Public Library. Hekman currently selects about 33% of the materials
available through the Federal Depository Library Program, and the collection
has well over 100,000 items. The largest part of the collection is in paper
format, held on "compact shelving" on the south side of 2nd
floor. A smaller part of the collection is contained on compact disc,
located in the DRC area on the 2nd
floor, and the microform portion is located in the microforms
area on the 2nd
floor. The collection includes census data, congressional publications,
laws, supreme court opinions, and selected materials from nearly every other
federal government agency. In addition to serving the persons on Calvin's
campus, the Hekman collection of government documents is available for use
without fees by the citizens of Michigan's third congressional district. |
